High potential and gifted education
Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.
At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.
Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

What is high potential and gifted education?
High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.
We do this through:
- effective teaching strategies like enrichment, extension and acceleration
- tailored support during lessons that stretch, challenge and inspire
- access to a wide range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
Our high potential and gifted education opportunities
Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

I have been involved in a number of programs at school that I really enjoy. One of them is the Ready Set Go program, which helps kindy kids transition into school. At first, the little kids were a bit nervous, but it was great to see them become more confident and start having fun. They love to play, especially with Lego, and often invite you to join in.
I’m also part of the Buddy Reading program, where I help younger students with their reading. When they get stuck on a word, they ask for help, and I support them to work it out or confirm when they've read it right. It’s great when kids come up to me in the playground and say, “You’re the person I read with!” Now, we also play chess together in the library during lunch, which is really fun.
Being a member of the Goori Group has been a wonderful experience. We’ve learned about Gumbaynggirr language, dance, and culture. We even visited Westlawn Public School, where we did weaving, played games, and had a lot of fun. We also performed in several shows, which helped build our confidence through lots of rehearsals. One of my favourite memories was performing with Westlawn in front of our school — it felt relaxed and enjoyable, not rushed at all.
Overall, my experience at school has been really positive. If I had to move to another school, I would be very upset. When I started here, I didn’t know anyone, but on my very first day, 18 kids came up and asked me to play!
My advice to any new student would be: “Don’t be afraid to walk up to someone and say hi. Everyone is friendly and loves meeting new people.”
Helping Out and Having Fun at School
I helped out with the preschool reading program this year. Each week, we would choose two books from our school library and read them to the preschool kids before playing a game with them. I read books about football and Aboriginal Dreamtime stories because we got to choose the books, and I wanted them to know about those things so that when they get older and come to school, they would be interested and want to learn more.
It was good because in Ready Set Go this year, I got to see some of the same kids I read to and helped them with different things, like holding a pencil properly and tracing numbers and letters.
At school, I get to see all my friends and play sports. This year, I competed in touch football, basketball, cricket, soccer, and netball.
Being a leader at school this year, I help run the assembly each day, school marches and parades, and ANZAC Day services.
If I could say anything to a new student at our school, it would be: “At our school, there are nice teachers, and it is good because you make new friends and play sport.”
